World Building

Working on the novella I'm involved in creating a world, mostly based on my own home town, but I don't name the city, because I prefer to let readers imagine their own towns and cities.

Creating a world that's complete with what is needed in the plot and being true to my own internal story drains me. And I move it along nonetheless - slowly at times and I look for distractions (oh, look! A Facebook train wreck).

I hear some writers saying they write 2000 words a day. Good for them. I feel accomplished when I write one scene and it adds to the narrative.
